We understand that telehealth services represent a significant shift for many, leading to understandable hesitation and questions. We hope these FAQs help alleviate your concerns and provide clarity on what to expect.
How does it work?
Just email or call. Before your session, your therapist will send you a link to our secure, confidential, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform. We utilize SimplePractice for our telehealth services. You can participate using your computer, iPad, or phone without needing to download any software or subscribe to any service. When your session begins, you can engage with your therapist as you normally would.
Will insurance cover it?
The Carbon Center, LLC accepts various insurance coverage, including Aetna, Cigna, Optum, United Healthcare, Oscar, Oxford Health Plans, and other subsidiaries. Our rates vary, and we offer a limited sliding scale fee-for-service option for low-income families. This sliding scale represents a range of out-of-pocket fees based on financial need.
I’m home with my family/roommates – do you have recommendations for finding a private space to talk?
We understand that this can be challenging, and we have a few suggestions. Create white noise with a fan or other background noise (preferably placed outside the doorway of the room you’re in). Consider using headphones or earbuds to keep your therapist's voice confidential. You might also take your session while walking, sitting in your car (parked in a safe location), or from a private outdoor space.
I’m still unsure if telehealth sessions are suitable for me – should I wait until I see my practitioner in person?
It's perfectly normal to prefer an in-person connection with your therapist – and we prefer that too! However, it’s uncertain how long this will be our new norm. During unsettling times, support from your therapist may be more critical than ever. We don’t want to disrupt the significant progress you’ve made. If you’re hesitant about trying a telehealth session, we encourage you to give at least one a try to see how it feels. Many have found that while telehealth services may require adjustment, they provide an excellent way to connect during this time.
GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining the expected costs of your medical care. Under the law, health care providers are required to give patients who don’t have insurance or are not using insurance an estimate for medical items and services.
• You have the right to obtain a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, which includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
• Ensure your health care provider provides a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling any item or service with your healthcare provider or any other provider you choose.
• If you receive a bill that exceeds your Good Faith Estimate by at least $400, you have the right to dispute the bill. Remember to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or further information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
What if I need to cancel my session?
CANCELLATION POLICY
Please inform me of any cancellations with at least 24 hours' notice. Failure to comply with this cancellation policy, including no-shows and late cancellations, will result in the client being charged the full session rate (which is determined based on your session rate agreed upon in your initial consultation and disclosed in the cancellation policy). If there are two or more missed visits within 30 days without communication, I will conclude the current episode of care, requiring a new intake assessment to resume services. Additionally, consecutive cancellations of three or more may lead to a referral to another agency.
Please note that unforeseen emergencies may arise. However, I can usually accommodate rescheduling within the same week if necessary. I kindly request that my flexibility is not misused and expect open communication between us. This serves as a reminder that I appreciate your understanding regarding a one-time accommodation made for your cancellation request. Any further occurrences will result in a late cancellation, adhering to the cancellation policy outlined in this general notice.
